New Gold Protocol Rug

~$2M rug-pulled from New Gold Protocol, a 'gold-backed' BNB Chain yield project whose privileged contract authority drained deposits before the team vanished.

Funds Stolen

In September 2025, the "gold-backed" yield project New Gold Protocol on BNB Chain rug-pulled approximately $2 million. Privileged contract authority retained by the operators was used to drain pooled deposits, after which the team deleted its presence.

What happened

New Gold marketed gold-backed yield. The contracts retained a privileged drain/withdraw authority; once deposits accumulated, the operators exercised it and exited — the standard backdoor/privileged-authority rug structure (DeFiLabs, Kokomo, Arbix).

Aftermath

  • No recovery; operators unidentified.

Why it matters

New Gold Protocol is a 2025 instance of the catalogue's most-repeated structure — privileged-authority rug on a themed yield product during a chain's growth window — now wearing the "real-world-asset / gold-backed" costume. The theme changes (yield 2020, DeFi 2.0 2021, SocialFi 2023, AI/RWA 2025); the structure and the cheap user-side filter (verified source + renounced/timelocked authority) do not. Its catalogue value is as one more tick on the line proving the pattern is perennial and the defense perennially unused.
